Electromagnetic Fields and Your Health Recently, I was listening to a podcast with Dr. Mercola and he was talking about EMF’s. EMF’s are electromagnetic fields—invisible lines of force that emanate from any electrical or wireless device. There are basically two types of EMFs: low frequency and high frequency. Low frequency EMFs are emitted by our electricity and appliances. High Frequency EMFs (also known as Radio Frequency or “RFs”) are generated by all our wireless devices. Einstein’s work tells us that EMF waves last for infinity once they are generated. This is important to remember. Now comes the frightening part…. According to Dr. Mercola, in the last 100 years there has been a billion billionth increase in EMF’s that we are being exposed to every single second. You heard that correctly: That is ten with eighteen zeros after it! And the frequencies keep getting higher. We love when our phone company comes out with a new generation of EMF power (3G to 4G and now to 5G), but we don’t consciously realize the negative impact it’s having on every body (plant, animal or human) living on this planet. That said, I’ll point out that not all EMF’s are not bad. In fact, our cells communicate using electromagnetic frequencies. Our cells, the cells of plants and animals, use low-level EMF signals for their intra/intercellular communication. Excellent cellular communication is critical to maintaining optimal health. Think of a relay race. Good communication, good handoff is critical if you want to win the race. But how are these high-level frequencies that never die impacting our cells? And since we can’t escape them, how can we counteract the negative effects of them? According to Dr. Mercola, native PEMF (Pulsed Electro-Magnetic Field) devices seem to actually reverse some of the damage that EMFs can do. Hence, my interest in PEMF devices like the ONDAMED. The use of PEMF to treat disease is seen by many as the next frontier of medicine. By applying these low-level pulsed electromagnetic frequencies together with feedback from your pulse, the body actually dictates which frequencies to apply and where to apply them. When a frequency is applied that the body resonates with, healing can occur. You’ll be seeing more information about this from us in the coming weeks. But here’s a no-nonsense article from Dr. Oz to get you thinking about the many benefits and applications for PEMF therapy.
Go Green For Wellness With Matcha Green Tea For centuries, Japanese monks used matcha tea to stay alert while maintaining calmness during their long meditations. The plant is grown in the shade, giving it its vibrant green color. Why is Matcha considered so healthy? Partly  because, unlike other teas, you ingest the entire leaf as a crushed fine powder rather than steeping the leaves alone. It is also:
  • Full of antioxidants
  • High levels of a catechin called ECGC to protect against disease and cancers, act an an anti-infectant and improve cardiovascular health
  • Reduces insulin sensitivity and glucose levels
  • Improves mental health with high levels of L-Theanine to reduce anxiety
  • Reduces symptoms of chronic fatigue
  • High levels of chlorophyll detox the body
  • Catechins in Matcha also give it a better fat loss advantage and help stave off hunger
I’ve become obsessed with matcha in my daily routine and wanted to share this recipe I’ve come to love for Matcha Green Tea Fudge BarsYou’ll also find some great Matcha Green Tea Smoothie Ideas over here. Enjoy!
To Anti-Oxidant or not to Anti-Oxidant? There’s An Answer. Exercise is a hormetic stressor, meaning a low dose is beneficial to you and can make you stronger. And if you are like me, you don’t want to waste your time by doing something after working out that will negatively impact your efforts. It has long been thought that taking anti-oxidants after working out would blunt the positive effects of exercise (here’s a NYT article that breaks it down). Recent studies, however, show that certain anti-oxidants actually have post-workout prowess. You can drink things like tart cherry juice, pomegranate juice or even green tea or green tea extracts without impacting the effects of exercise. All these things will help you recover from exercise by quelling inflammation, much like hydrogen-rich water does, and without blunting the positive effects of exercise on the body. It turns out that “regular consumption of tart cherry juice may accelerate post-workout recovery, increasing overall training capacity and enhancing performance in races by reducing muscle pain.” Read more here. I personally use Purium’s tart cherry juice not only after working out but also before bed. It serves double duty as a natural source of melatonin, too. In the morning, I get my coffee fix by drinking Encha’s Matcha Tea. Green tea can not only help with exercise recovery and reduce inflammation but it can also be mentally calming due to the theanine (L-theanine) content. Many people feel more mentally alert without the jitters. We carry Purium’s Tart Cherry Juice and H2 Absorb, an effervescent antioxidant, in the office ~ Give them a try whether you’re working out or just want to improve your overall health and body’s ability to recover faster.
