HealthBoost Thought #1: Could a 10-Minute A Day Mobility Practice Help You Live Longer & Happier? I was recently listening to The Model Health Show where Shawn Stevenson was interviewing Luka Hocevar, a bonified movement guru. Luka says our bodies were meant to move; lack of movement is death. Every morning Luka starts his day with a short mobility practice — and I do mean short — just 10 minutes! The misconception is that you must perform hours of work to make a difference in your mind or your body, but that’s simply not necessary. Short segments of mobility work, done consistently, can reap huge dividends. Think about it this way: 10 minutes per day, 365 days a year equal almost 61 hours in 1 year! Surely 61 hours will make a difference! As Luka says, “A small hinge can swing a big door.” So what is the goal of this mobility practice? It’s to move all the joints in your body, wake them up, loosen up the muscles and tendons and move synovial fluid, our joint oil, into the spaces around the joints. Not only is it good for the body, but it’s good for the brain. Movement helps you think more clearly and it even gives you a shot of dopamine, the feel-good hormone. You can do it by yourself or with another person….maybe even your spouse. Find some of Luka’s mobility practices on YouTube or explore inventing one that feels good for yourself. For me, every morning I wake up and do a 10-15 yoga routine based on a routine from Rodney Yee. I’ve been doing this for the past 20 years and I can honestly say I miss it when I can’t do it. I love it so much, I even get to O’Hare earlier when I’m traveling and hit the yoga lounge for my pre-flight yoga. It’s a great way to prepare for a long flight! Think about how 10 minutes a day could possibly make a difference in how you feel not only every day but for the rest of your life! HealthBoost Thought #2: Could Food Prep be the Secret to Losing Weight? Whether it’s surrendering those last 10 pounds (or maybe even 50) or sticking to a nutritional plan devoid of allergens, everyone wants to fuel their bodies to look their best and feel healthier. Since the beginning of the year, I’ve been following a highly regimented meal and workout plan. The thing I’ve really learned since starting this plan is this: Preparation is the key to everything. Benjamin Franklin was right when he said, “By failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail.”  Prepping my meals ahead of time is the easiest way I’ve found to be prepared. I know exactly what I’m going to eat, and when. I also know how many calories and the macronutrient breakdown of my meals so I know I will not exceed the amount of energy I use each day. It’s a perfect recipe for weight loss. One of the secrets? I sit down on Sunday to work out the plan and prepare my meals and snacks. Now that it’s habit, it has become a favored Sunday ritual. I freeze the meals and organize my snacks in containers in the refrigerator, ready to go at a moment’s notice. But here’s the cool part I want to share with you. All the prep in the world is for naught if you don’t look forward to eating what you’ve made. When you’re on the go as most of us are, having hot & pleasurable food ready is critical to staying on track. Enter: Hot Logic.
