of Science degree in Counseling from George Williams College. Janine spent several years in private practice providing individual counseling to children and adults.

Janine left the health care field for a short period during which time she was a Project Director at Sears, Roebuck and Company. As a Project Director at Sears, Janine utilized her understanding of people to help them reach their highest personal potential while delivering impressive results for the company.

In 2002, Janine returned to the health care field and earned a Masters in Acupuncture from the Midwest College of Oriental Medicine.  During this three year, 2,000+ hour, intensive program, Janine learned Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) "Zang Fu" system of physiology, pathology, diagnosis, and treatment strategy. In addition to all the Chinese Medicine coursework, the curriculum provided a solid foundation in needle technique, traditional accessory modalities, and the Western sciences such as anatomy, physiology, neurology and pharmacology. Janine also spent over 600 hours in the Midwest College's student clinics. In the clinics, Janine was able to gain invaluable experience treating a wide range of medical conditions.  While building her knowledge and skills, Janine was also able to fine-tune her patient/healer sensitivities.

Janine graduated from the Midwest College program Summa Cum Laude and immediately passed the National Board exam and became a licensed Acupuncturist in the State of Illinois.

In July 2007, Janine opened Nature's Balance Acupuncture in Crystal Lake, Illinois. Nature's Balance mission is to help as many people as possible in their quest for optimum health. In order to accomplish this mission, Janine works to educate her patients as well as the surrounding communities on the benefits of Oriental Medicine so that they may, in turn, educate others.

Janine has received extensive training from a master in a 2,500 year old method of acupuncture called "The Balance Method". This method uses the strongest of all 2,000+ points found on the body in order to achieve amazing results, with pain relief often occurring within seconds. Over a series of treatments, long lasting relief can be achieved approximately 80% of the time.

Janine is also a member of the prestigious Foundation for Wellness Professionals.  The Foundation of Wellness Professionals is a national non-profit organization composed of health care providers who educate their communities on wellness and disease prevention. Janine has received advanced training in managing women's issues, as well as stress reduction methods and nutrition and is a Certified Clinical Medical Thermology Technologist. Lastly, Janine is a Reiki Master and is trained in the art of Jin Shin Jyutsu. Jin Shin Jyutsu releases tensions in the body, which cause various symptoms to appear.

Chinese medicine is all about restoring harmony in the body. Rather than pinpointing disease-causing bacteria and using antibiotics to fight them off, TCM locates the weakness or imbalance that is causing susceptibility to illness, and then helps the person achieve a harmonious and balanced state of well-being through supportive herbs, acupuncture, Tui Na and lifestyle recommendations. Health is not just the absence of symptoms; it is the harmonious and balanced functioning of the body.

Ancient Healing for Modern Women

My story is probably very typical. I had lower back pain and sciatic nerve pain radiating to my ankle. I had started approximately 15 years ago. In that time I had seen my family practice physician, a neurosurgeon and an orthopedic surgeon. In the last seven years, I have had 4 major back surgeries resulting in two disc fusions. The disc fusions relieved the radiating leg pain, but I still suffered from muscle soreness. After falling down some stairs in February of 2007, radiating pain started again. I feel that my quality of life was reduced by 80% during the times when the pain was the worst. Almost any physical activity, no matter how minor just exasperated the inflammation caused by yet another ruptured disc. After several visits to the neurosurgeon, muscle relaxers, pain medication (Vicodan and Norco), anti-inflammatories, and physical therapy, the only available option was another disc-fusion surgery. The benefits of another surgery seemed limited compared to all the risk and recovery time. I had heard about acupuncture from a lady at work who had had success with it. I definitely do not like needles, but thought it was still worth a try.

I started acupuncture in May of 2008. After the very first treatment, the pain radiating down my leg had completed disappeared. My wife even mentioned that I walked differently coming home after the treatment. It was just that dramatic. I returned for another 19 treatments. My back soreness has eased although it has not totally disappeared. Currently, I feel that my quality of life is only reduced by 40 % compared to the 80% before treatment. Besides removing the pain, acupuncture removed the hopeless feeling that nothing would ever make me feel better.
